Probably my favourite place on the philosopher's path. The Honen-Ji is not directly on the way, you have to move a bit away from the path through a very quiet residential area, towards the forest, to find it. Past the majestic and venerable portal covered by moss, you see a rustic temple, in a cool garden invaded by the roots of large trees. Not a single visitor other than yourself. No souvenir shop or merchandising, but a few works of contemporary art which blend discreetly with the encroaching nature. In a corner of the garden, a little pavillion houses an exhibition of abstract paintings and photographs. After a few minutes of perfect timeless serenity, a monk gently asks you to leave and apologizes, because it will be time for prayer. A perfect moment.
