From the latest session with my friend Verena. I'm very used and experienced shooting in subdued light, on foggy or muted days - I just know what to do and how my film behaves in these circumstances. For some reason I rarely shot during golden hour before so for the last two sessions I challenged myself to get out of my comfort zone. I feel like it paid off quite a bit! However, I still have to go through a lot of film rolls to feel as comfortable as I am on overcast days.
The field of photography that initially drew me to the medium is portraiture. Trying to cut to the core of a person, trying to catch a brief window of character, of vulnerability, of bravery and strength, getting to know the person in front of me and translate it onto film; I love this process. To observe and collect, to bridge the gap in between just enough to say something truthful. To discover something in or about a person which they didn't know themselves.
I recently had the pleasure to shoot some press pictures for Hannah, a painter and model who had just opened her exhibition in Munich. We spent 3 hours at the gallery and talked about her process, her passion and her inspirations. We had a bit less light than I had wished but the pictures came out quite nice regardless. Here she is, standing in front of one of her paintings.
