Loburg (St.Laurentius)

No.72 of a hundred village churches to come... It once stood in the village of Möckernitz, from which the town of Loburg emerged in the Middle Ages. There was already a church there in the 10th century, but it was destroyed during the Slavic revolt of 983. In 1212 the reconstruction in the Romanesque architectural style was completed. The rectangular substructure of the church tower from this period is still preserved today. The first renovations took place during the Gothic period, when the three-aisled nave and the chancel were rebuilt.
